Malaysia Eyeing Two Men’s Doubles Pairs for 2028 LA Olympics, Says Rexy

Malaysia has a strong chance of qualifying two men’s doubles pairs for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, with Goh Sze Fei–Nur Izzuddin (world No. 1), Aaron Chia–Soh Wooi Yik (No. 2), Man Wei Chong–Tee Kai Wun (No. 7), and Yap Roy King–Wan Arif (No. 24) all performing well.

BAM doubles coaching director Rexy Mainaky remains cautious despite the encouraging rankings, stressing that the journey to the Olympics is still long. He emphasized the need for continued hard work to maintain form and stay ahead of international rivals.

Rexy aims for four Malaysian pairs in the top four by 2028, with the country eligible to send two pairs if both rank inside the world’s top eight by the end of the qualifying period.

Wei Chong–Kai Wun, who won the Indonesian and Malaysian Masters this year, have been added to the Road to Gold (RTG) programme, joining Aaron–Wooi Yik, Pearly Tan–Thinaah (women’s doubles), and Chen Tang Jie–Toh Ee Wei (mixed doubles).
